fine arranged melodies from multiple sound sources, as stated in his biography, are the building blocks of which daniel mehlhart considers to be the essence of good music. putting what he preaches into practice has affirmed the 22-year-old swiss born, frankfurt am main resident, as one of the most exciting new talents in the underground tech-house movement. his most acclaimed release was the harp-tinged origami, released last summer on kindisch, which catapulted him into the record bags and charts of a slew of seasoned djs during the end of last summer. >scharade< is an example of young daniel sticking to what he does best, mixing and blending techno. atmospheres and sonic images while still animating an organic and natural vibe over the tracks. liberal amounts of percussion and a middle eastern or asian vocal dramatically pitched this tune beyond recognition watermark with a style and a vibe that he has helped to advance. the house roots of >distracted conscience< are present right from the onset. using a double pump kick to inject a pinch more of energy into the already flourishing habitat of off-kilter and spooky sound effects. so many in fact it is easy to see how he came up with the name, >distracted conscience<, as there are more effects floating around in this track than thoughts in the head of an 8-year-old who forgot his daily dose of ritalin. he turns to an ethnic vocal on >alura< again, but keeping the overall mood of this outing a bit deeper. he pulls out even more percussion instruments including extra shakers, toms and bongos all marching along harmoniously. this is a head down, hands-up, side-to-side bopper that just keeps quietly elevating as subtle elements are added and subtracted throughout the duration of the tune. a coherent composition and dj tool all in one. although this is his second release there are no signs of a sophomore slump anywhere in site, as daniel mehlharts talent lies in his unique, but subtle ability to gel different eleme

the cologne based grossprojekt arose in 2006 from the rather coincidental neigbourship and clubbing friendship between techno dj and live act bastian bue?r and breakbeat producer alex cwicek. the year 2008 marks the end of their deliberate reluctance: their debut release on debox combines the different roots of the two artists to a new creative entity, resulting in an amazingly effective piece of techno in querschlaeger. raumkruemmung on the flipside works a bit like its own, streamlined transmission onto a straight bassdrum monotonous, raw and uncompromising.

there is no doubt that leipzig is a pulsating place in terms of electronic music. however, the potential of the city seems to be experiencing a new surge - not least due to up-and-coming producers like sven tasnadi and stefan schultz aka juno6. both belong to the generation of musicians who initially released their tracks for free on net-labels but have since have made the leap to vinyl. while sven tasnadi has already released great eps on liebe*detail, smallville records and of course on cargo edition, juno6 just recently made his debut with >salamis< in spring 2008 on broque. now they have joined forces with their first collaboration for cargo edition. both tracks on the ep are characterised by elaborate rhythms, a special deepness and intricately arranged sounds. >aramis< tells apparently different stories which merge seamlessly during its 14 minutes. the track also explores the hypnotic moments on the dancefloor in a very subtle and complex manner - reduced but full of vibrancy at the same time. >genau so< on the b-side takes a similar line, but adds a spark of funk, which combines to form its distinctive rhythm. sven tasnadi & juno6 have created two modern house tracks which are full of character.

electric arguments is the first fireman album in 10 years, and this song based album couldnt be more different than its predecessors. for those who dont know by now, the fireman is a collaborative project between music icon paul mccartney and revered producer youth. the pair first worked together in the 90s when they made two ambient dance albums. originally the firemans identity was anonymous and was eventually revealed by the press as being paul and youth. in september it was announced that the fireman would this year release their first brand new material in a decade and this time there was a big difference - the duo had found their voice. speculation began, one studio insider was reported as saying the new songs sounds like arcade fire meets led zeppelin. certainly so far, anyone who has already heard the album has commented on just how accessible electric arguments is, compared to the first two fireman albums. this album is an eclectic and diverse collection of songs that show paul is still interested in pure musical possibilities. each track was written and recorded in the space of one day. the fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound. the project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band.

just in time for summer (in the southern hemisphere of course!) is latin impressions vol. 5 (the highly anticipated and latest in the series and the prelude to the long awaited and soon to be released latin impressions album). latin impressions vol. 5 is not your average latin house release and will take you on a journey into the many different flavours of latin dance music. first up are victor simonelli and vince sortino with cumbiana, a deeply storming track featuring great horns alongside a jazzy piano which creates an totally infectious vibe. next is espiritu xeneize by victor simonelli featuring a wonderful accordian over a smooth, laidback groove. raf n souls latin expression is a live precussion session that is simple, effective and mesmerizing. finally we have samba party by graeme park & nick hussey, which is an uplifting affair featuring graemes saxophones and nicks keys over a deep, fierce samba flavoured groove.

fusing some weird italo-ish vibes together with some unmistakenly drexciyan influences this is a pretty unique release on rh! concepts often bring interesting results and this is no exception.. i think its going to be a real >love it or hate it< record. yurotrago take the track somewhere completely different, stretching it out on a different kind of vision. awesome deep and moody action for the floor. the packaging is awesome for this one

maintaining the high levels of filth on the dubstar imprint, f one gives kromestar a run for his money with this one. 3 dancefloor destroyers on this plate, but not wihtout some depth and variety. in particular, stomp the yard brings some different techy kinda vibes to the dance. propa stomping business!

this massive track has now been remixed by steve rachmad and martin h! and what a package it is! it has been worth the wait for sure. no doubt. the way these two have tweaked and changed this anthem is really interesting. what came out of it in the end is more or less two new songs. two different forms. two new interpretations to absorb. wicked!.
